About Terra Verde, Now Part of SWCA

We are pleased to announce that Terra Verde Environmental Consulting has joined SWCA Environmental Consultants, one of the country’s leading environmental consulting firms.

In business for more than 40 years, SWCA focuses on environmental planning, permitting, and compliance; natural, cultural, and water resources management; ecological restoration, climate and land services, and more for clients throughout the U.S. and its territories.

This strategic alignment allows SWCA and Terra Verde to tap into broader expertise and resources, and better serve clients in central California and throughout the West region.

What this means for Terra Verde clients:

  • Brooke Langle and Brian Dugas will continue to be your main points of contact, and the core staff will remain the same.
  • The San Luis Obispo team will continue to serve its clients with the same high-quality, cost-effective, and responsive solutions to project challenges and environmental issues.
  • With broader resources and expertise, Terra Verde will be positioned to take on larger, more complex projects and fulfill all your environmental compliance needs.

For more information about the acquisition or to inquire about our services, please contact Brooke Langle, now SWCA’s Strategic Growth Director; Bill Henry, SWCA’s San Luis Obispo Office Director; or Laura Moran, Vice President of SWCA’s Northern & Central California subregion.

Ecological Scent-Detection Dogs

About the Dogs

Terra Verde provides ecological scent-detection dog services for wildlife surveys. Two highly trained detection dogs are available for contract through Robyn Powers, handler and owner of the dogs and Senior Wildlife Biologist with Terra Verde. The detection dogs have nearly eight years of experience surveying for San Joaquin kit fox (Vulpes macrotis mutica) scat and bird and bat fatalities.

Detection dog surveys are non-invasive and provide a less biased, efficient, and effective alternative to standard surveys for rare or cryptic species.

What we do

We discovered a new species

Former employee Kristen Nelson identified a new botanical species of spineflower growing in the serpentine soil while inventorying species for the city of San Luis Obispo’s Irish Hills Natural Reserve. The spineflower, Chorizanthe aphanantha or “Irish Hills spineflower,” was accepted by Madroño, the peer-reviewed, scientific journal of the California Botanical Society. And, it will soon be recommended for inclusion as one of California’s most rare plants.
